How to change colours by crocheting the C2C method

Let's get to work 🙂

I'll show you how to change colours in C2C crochet using a pattern and a description — pick whichever way works best for you!

• GRAPH - shows us which way to crochet

• DESCRIPTION - The row is a row

B - Blue

N - Navy

Work begins from the left corner. Only one colour is used from rows 1 to 8, so the process is straightforward.

Proceed to row 9 and make the first square.

Everything goes smoothly until we change colour :)

It's not that hard, no worries. As the saying goes: "The Devil is not so black as he's painted". 

The yarn in the new colour (in this case, navy) is taken and pulled through the spot where the crochet hook was previously inserted to make the next square.

Make a slip stitch in the new colour.

Make 3 chain stitches.

And 3 double crochets to make a square in a new colour.

A blue square is made. Then, six navy squares are worked, according to the pattern description.

↘ ROW 9: 1B, 6N, 2B

Next, two blue squares are made.
The crochet hook is inserted into the desired spot for the next square. 

The blue yarn is pulled through the place where the hook was previously inserted, and then through the navy blue chain stitch.

A slip stitch is made with the blue yarn, followed by 3 chain stitches and 3 double crochet stitches to complete the square.

Make another 2 blue squares.

Row 9 is completed. Work continues with row 10.

↖ ROW 10: 3B, 6N, 1B 

In row 10, make 3 blue squares.

Then 6 navy blue squares and again a blue square (see description above)

Row 10 is completed.

The following rows are made using the same method as described above.

Crocheting C2C methods - one colour

If you’ve never heard of C2C crochet before – don’t worry, you’re not alone! But today’s the perfect day to dive in and see what all the fuss is about 😄

C2C stands for corner-to-corner – and yep, it’s exactly what it sounds like! It’s a fun and clever way to crochet from the bottom-left corner of your project all the way up to the top-right corner.

It’s a bit like building pixel art, kind of like in Minecraft 🎮. Only here, instead of blocks, you’re using cosy little squares made of yarn.

I’ll walk you through how it works so you can start your first C2C project with confidence (and maybe even a little excitement)! 💪✨

In this post, I’ll show you how to start crocheting using the C2C (corner-to-corner) method with just one colour of yarn 🎨

Here’s what you’ll need:

• a crochet hook (check your yarn label for the recommended size) 🧶

• scissors ✂️

• a yarn needle with a large eye 🪡

Before you begin, make sure you’re comfortable with these basic stitches:

• chain stitch

• double crochet stitch

• slip stitch

Let's start!

INCREASE

Start work by making 6 chain stitches

Catch the yarn with a hook and move the crochet hook towards the 3rd chain stitch

Make a double crochet stitch in the 3rd chain from the hook. There should now be two double crochets – the first formed by the chain, and the second just made.

Then we make two more double crochet stitches

The first square is now complete:

↘ ROW 1: 1P

Move on to the second row:

Make 6 chain stitches.

Catch the yarn with a hook and move the crochet hook towards the 3rd chain stitch

Make a 3 times double crochet stitch, starting on the 3rd chain stitch. 

Turn the piece and stick the hook into the space between the first and second double crochet. 

Make a slip stitch

Make 3 chain stitches

In the same space, make 3 times double crochet

We have finished the second row.

↖ ROW 2: 2P

Proceed to the third row:

Make 6 chain stitches

Catch the yarn with a hook and move the crochet hook towards the 3rd chain stitch.

Make a 3 times double crochet stitch

Turn the piece and stick the hook into the space between the first and second double crochet

Make a slip stitch

Make 3 chain stitches

In the same space, make 3 double crochet stitches.

Now the second square is complete.

Again, stick the hook into the space between the first and second double crochet. 

Make a slip stitch 

Make 3 chain stitches

In the same space, make 3 times double crochet

The third row is complete.

↘ ROW 3: 3P

Continue working the next rows in the same way, gradually increasing the size of the piece.

Once the piece reaches the desired size (row 10 in this case), it’s time to begin decreasing

There are 10 squares along each side of the triangle

DECREASE

Begin decreasing from the top-left corner.

Turn the piece.

Make a slip stitch in the next four stitches

Make 3 chain stitches

And 3 times double crochet

 Work the squares as usual, except for the last one

Stick the hook into the space between the first and second double crochet. Make a slip stitch.

Turn the piece and make a slip stitch in the next four stitches

The number of squares in the hypotenuse line decreases by one for each successive row. (Look at the GRAPH and DESCRIPTION above)

Finish the last square with a slip stitch

The piece is now complete
